The Quest For A Brown Carlisle Bucket
– A tale of an Ethical company
About 8 weeks ago the founder, Julia Clark, found a very young puppy at the end of the driveway.
Introducing Greenbean! He found me before dawn a short while back! He was the first to leave his litter with his parents. For a couple of mornings, I heard what sounded like a puppy whining. I thought it must be some sort of bird at first. The third time I went decided to get a closer listen. It was just cresting dawn as I looked across the field. I could clearly tell it was a puppy’s cry. I tromped across the field to the roadside and am greeted by this little fellow.

About a year ago, The Organization moved into a 2000+ square foot offices-studio-homestead. The move and the campus has not been formally announced. But a few photos have been posted.
It is an old 1935 bootleggers home with wood floors throughout the building. Well, there is wood floors now the carpet was all ripped out.
With hardwood floors throughout, Julia had bought an industrial mop, but had not bought a bucket and wringer. Thus the quest for a mop bucket and wringer.
The quest lead Julia to Home Depot and finding out what a wonderful company Carlilse is.
From Home Depot online store, Julia selected what she thought was a brown Carlisle mop bucket and wringer. She was sorely disappointed when her order arrived and it was only the wringer.
She checked her order slip. The order slip only listed a wringer. She went back online and checked the online order. With close and careful review, it was clear that what she had ordered was only a wringer. Disappointment does not begin to describe the let down; Julia was crushed.
Julia had eagerly awaited to mop the 2000+ square foot building clean of puppy piddles with assistance of a professional grade mop bucket and wringer to match her industrial mop. A mop that was not easily wrung by hand. Moreover, the puppy was becoming more able-bodied by the day!
She contacted Home Depot’s customer service. They were not helpful at all. Firstly, they did not have a matching brown Carlisle bucket for the wringer. Secondly, the return process to exchange the Carlisle wringer for a complete mop bucket and wringer was going to be costly. Even when transferred to a supervisor the best he was going to be able to do was wave the restocking fee!
Julia decided she was just going to order a brown Carlisle bucket for her brown Carlisle wringer. There was not one to be had new or used anywhere on the web. Every place sold the brown mop bucket and wringer as one unit. And there simply where not any used brown Carlisle buckets to be found.
With that discovery, The Brown Carlisle Bucket had become a token.
This sparked an impromptu letter to the Carlisle Company.
Finding the correct person to write was a feat in itself. Julia made her best estimation and jotted off this letter:

Dear Keith Sisco and Amy Yore
I am the director of a very small not-for-profit NGO, foundation, company whatever you would like to call it. My whole life is spent toward curbing fraud and corruption. I have no kids or family to speak of My foundation is my life.
I had a terrible experience with Home Depot and your product. I would like to share this with you, if I may have a moment of your time.
I had $— to spend at Home Depot. This was not any $— I had received this was a gift card I had specifically selected so I could to buy a brown Carlisle mop bucket with a wringer for the office and studio.
I was very excited. I had diligently for a year detailed ——- and ———– for ——— Program of the University of Virginia and had a choice of gift cards to select from. I choose Home Depot because of the brown Carlisle mop bucket and wringer. Brown was a soft gentle color in contrast to my harsh work as a fraud examiner.
During that year I had moved into a very large 1935 homestead that is ———————– of Clean By —- that I converted into offices and studio. With hardwood floors throughout, I had bought an industrial mop, but had not bought a bucket and wringer. Thus my quest for my mop bucket and wringer.
Recently one of my neighbors dogs brought a puppy to my doorstep. I did not have a dog and was in a large place on my own, though a puppy was not in the budgets. I kept the puppy and name him Greenbean.
As puppies do they make puppy piddles. I was going to need to mop daily. My need for a mop and wringer became urgent!
I chose to use my $— gift card to buy a mop bucket and wringer. I set my heart on the Carlisle brown mop bucket and wringer. And selected the Home Depot gift card that let me purchase it.
Prior to ——————, I worked the high volume tourism and venue industry, I was very excited to have some industrial equipment for my new venue.
All of this came crushing down when I realized Home Depot had pulled a fast one on me.
And they blamed it on the Carlisle company.
The Home Depot Deception
Living so very remote, I am very accustom to shopping online.
I had selected the Home Depot card because of the Brown Carlisle mop bucket and wringer.
While shopping, I thought it would be nice to have a high-end Carlisle, but the organization would be fine with a lower end one. I was still very happy with the Carlisle selection, plus I had funds to select other items with the year-long earned gift card.
I received the product and it was absolutely not what I expected. I expected a mop bucket and wringer. I received only a wringer. I was very sorely disappointed.

As you can see Home Depot shows it as a combo, but it is not a combo. The first photo shows a Carlisle wringer only, then the next is a Rubbermaid combo then the next is a what appears to be a Carlisle combo.
I ordered the third one. When it arrived it was only a wringer.
Though I truly wanted a brown mop bucket and wringer. I could not order the matching bucket from Home Depot. I could not find a brown Carlisle mob bucket anywhere on the web, not even a used one!
Before I hung up with the supervisor I implored to him to please bring this to the correct department attention. I do not believe he will.
This is a deceptive practice.
I am asking two things of you Mr. Sisco and Ms. Yore
Do you have a brown bucket?
Would you spank Home Depot for me?
Carlisle is too good of a company to be represented in such a questionable manner.
Julia did not get a response from the late Wednesday night letter. So on Friday she followed up with a phone call to the customer service number.
The first person she spoke with was Janice Murray. Julia was certain that a first line customer service representative would not be able to help in a satisfactory way. Janice Murray implored to Julia to just give her a chance. Reluctantly, Julia did give her a chance, though after experiencing Home Depot’s customer service, she had her doubts.
Julia read the letter to Janice and at 3:10 pm on Friday sent this letter to Janice:
Thank you for take the time to assist me on the quest for a brown bucket to match the brown Carlisle wringer. Our conversation was very reassuring.
After sending the letter to Ms. Murray, Julia closed shop and shut the phones down. It was time for a bit of R&R.
Still dispirited, Julia logged in Monday and read this email:
I have talked to my supervisor and we are going to send you out the bucket for all your inconvenience. I apologize you had such a horrible experience with home depot. You should see the bucket the end of next week
Amazingly, that had been sent at 4:03 pm on Friday, not only that but there were voice mails waiting even earlier than the letter. The response time was astonishing!
The customer service gets better the package arrived on Tuesday!
Julia quickly replied to the letter Ms. Murray had written, which had fallen to the back burner:
Thank you very much!
How very revitalizing The Julia Clark Organization’s experience with the Carlisle Company was to me personally.
I in no way expected the delivery of the brown Carlisle bucket to be so very quick.
After a very difficult long weekend of investigations the UPS truck pulls up to the office front door today. And lo and behold a brown Carlisle bucket. Or I should say The Elusive Brown Carlisle Bucket was delivered to the office!
I am very impressed at how very quickly the package arrived. The care and concern I experienced with the Carlisle company and specifically with your customer service moved me.
I must admit The Brown Carlisle Bucket has become a most warmly regarded award. It deserves a place of honor on my Love Me wall.
Janice called right away after receiving the Thank you email from Julia. Julia got Janice’s reassurance that the Home Depot platform would be corrected. They chatted for a while about how vendors can skim through shipping and other things Julia had noticed with the Home Depot experience.
It was a week before Julia could get to the floors of the office-studio-homestead like she wanted. When she finally opened the box much to her surprise was a full Carlisle wringer and mop bucket set.
It took another week to get the office-studio-homestead in order after the puppy perturbation.
Things are now in order. Home Depot has a brown Carlisle bucket for sale to match the brown Carlisle wringer. The puppy is very respectful of the clean floors. There has not been one puppy puddle accident since mopping with the Carlisle Brown Bucket and wringer. Coincidence? Maybe. But maybe, this Brown Carlisle Bucket has taken on mythic quality that can only be achieved around exceptional people and companies.
Carlisle is one of the best companies around. The ethics of the Carlisle company is above par.
Home Depot sucks. Avoid Home Depot if you can.
